Training

Our Signatory Contractors employ the skilled manpower of Steamfitters Local 420.  No other organization serves the training needs of the piping industry like the United Association. For over a century, the UA Has been training the most highly-qualified workers in Eastern Pennsylvania, the United States and Canada.

Over the past several decades, the UA Local 420 training programs have produced a stable, skilled workforce responsible for building and maintaining piping systems in the various industrial, commercial and residential facilities that make up the Eastern Pennsylvania landscape.

No one can match our commitment or investment to training. The UA International spends over $100 million annually on training programs involving over 250,000 journeymen and apprentices in over 400 local training facilities at any given time.

If the United Association International were to select the area that best reflects this commitment to the training and excellence, it would look to Local 420 and their 57,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. The partnership between the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Pennsylvania and Steamfitters Local 420 is partnership that produces excellence in the Pipefitting Industry.

The training facility at Local 420 is always filled with apprentices in our 5-Year Apprentice Program, ensuring that our contractors have a pool of skilled manpower at all times. Apprenticeship in the pipe trades is a highly selective program. Each apprentice has been carefully screened. No one with drug or alcohol problems can qualify and acceptance for training depends on the applicants qualifications and the manpower needs of the trade at the time of the selection process. The bottom line is that we ONLY select the most qualified candidates. The intensive technical training program consists of between 8,500 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and approximately 1,080 hours of related classroom training.

It is clear that our Associations boast the most trained, safe, drug-free workforce in Eastern Pennsylvania and Steamfitters Local 420 welcome you to tour their facility so that you can see it first hand.

For a tour or meeting with the Apprenticeship/Training Coordinator of Local 420 Contact Us and we will help you arrange a tour. We encourage you and your organization to do so!
