The M&SCA is dedicated to providing valuable service and resources to members and industry fund contributors. First organized for the sole purpose of collective bargaining, the Boards of Directors developed a long-term strategy to gradually expand services to meet the needs of members.

Labor Relations

Contractor members are represented during labor negotiations and on a day-to-day basis on all issues related to the administration of their collective bargaining agreement. The Association staff meet regularly with Steamfitters Local 420 and Plumbers Local 690 on behalf of members to discuss industry issues and to solve potential problems. Members of the M&SCA assign their bargaining rights to the association and have the opportunity to participate in labor negotiations.

Education and Training

The M&SCA brings in speakers from all over the country and provides an average of 10-15 training opportunities throughout the year to help members build a technically skilled, safety-conscious workforce. Topics include project management & foremen training, leadership & sales training, and technology in the field training, just to name a few. Classes vary in length from breakfast seminars that last one hour to full day presentations. There is something for everyone, so check out the events page often.

Government Relations

The M&SCA participates in government relations at the local, state and federal level, and has been instrumental in the passage of landmark legislation positively impacting the construction industry. With the help of lobbyist John Wanner, the M&SCA maintains a presence in Harrisburg and monitors the state issues affecting contractors in our industry. Members of the M&SCA PAC Fund Committee strive to build and maintain relationships  with key legislators so that member interests are always considered. All members are encouraged to provide the M&SCA with insight and feedback regarding legislative priorities.

As one of the most important issues in our industry, safety is heavily emphasized in many aspects of the Association. The M&SCA Safety Directors Committee meets quarterly to discuss the latest issues and trends. From there, recommendations, news alerts, and resource listings are provided to the membership through email blasts and website posts. Furthermore, educational programs and training classes are developed and offered to the membership based on the feedback from the Safety Directors Committee. The Annual Safety Awards are distributed at the Spring Membership Meeting each April to highlight and recognize the contractor members with the best safety records from the year prior.

Industry Relations

Many programs, and certainly legislation, have a better chance for success when developed as a collaborative effort by related industry organizations. Whether it be another trade association or labor unions, the M&SCA strives to build a consensus in the construction industry and maintains regular communication with these organizations to better serve its membership.

A core service of the M&SCA is the opportunity for all members to join in fellowship and simply get to know each other a little better. Through regular membership meetings and events, as well as social and sporting events, the M&SCA strives to maintain an environment that benefits the construction industry as a whole.
